Behaviour Problems

If you are experiencing handling, management, riding or travelling problems with your horse, please feel free to contact Louise on 07919 854854 or 01622 851282 for a brief discussion without obligation.

It is possible that just a small change to method of handling or management can solve the problem. However it may be necessary to arrange an assessment to find out what is happening and to gain a complete picture of the nature of the problem. Many influences can affect behaviour, especially past experiences, so we will try to piece together your horse's history as much as possible as this can help in understanding problems and deciding an effective solution to coping with them.

An holistic approach is used because it may be a number of factors which together have caused the behavioural problem. Where necessary veterinary, physiotherapy and other professional input and complimentary treatments may be recommended.

There is no quick fix in retraining horses and it is important to develop a programme suited to your horse and to your own individual circumstances. Your horse's welfare and also your goals will play important parts in designing a programme and after the consulation you will be given a full written report of my analysis of the problem, diagnosis, practical training programme, and prognosis.

Training advice could be quite simple or could involve a longer bespoke programme. In the latter case, extra visits may be necessary, but telephone and email support is available as well at no extra charge.

I do follow a strict professional code as laid down by the UK Society of Equine Behaviour Consultants. I am not yet registered with the Society but aim to be by 2014.

Initial consulations cost £100, with mileage charged at 40 pence per mile from Harrietsham, Kent. For the next 6 months while I put together my portfolio for the SEBC, fees will be reduced by 50%.
